Masterplanned and designed the Oman Convention Centre, fixing the masterplan and site configuration and the style and content of buildings while negotiating the design process with the project`s executive commitee. The original design that Tom put together was the winning entry in an international design competition, and was selected for its iconic use of a shallow dome as the central identifiable feature. This roof feature developed into a series of leafs or petals, as a symbol of the Omani desert rose,. The walls of the building form concentric colonnades around the arrival space. The entrance is the foal point of boulevard that rises from the urban streets and culminates in a formally landscaped ceremonial approach. As with the Royal Opera House the building uses layers of light and screens to differentiate its public spaces , but on a grander scale.
