TRDL were invited to liaise with UK based ID company Muzalab on the rebranding of the Fairmont Towers Luxury Hotel in Cairo Heliopolis to be the first Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Africa. The hotel already had a reputation as a luxury 5 star hotel in operation for 15 years, designed while Tom was with WATG, and many life-cycle issues had to be considered in the upgrade to make a luxury hotel product that would have a long life span. The renovation was originally considered as soft but involved many technology upgrades and restyled areas adding new enclosures, renovating waterworks and adding a new spa and fitness suite. TRDL worked alongside ID company Upperworth Studios on final design and implementation on site, and administered the contract. The external areas were also reconfigured to relocate the main entrance and upgrade poolside and surrounds..
