Tom was invited by the owners to liaise with UK based Interior Designers Muzalab on the rebranding of the Fairmont Towers Luxury Hotel in Cairo Heliopolis to be the first Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Africa. The hotel already had a reputation as a luxury 5 star hotel in operation for 15 years, designed while he was with WATG, and many life-cycle issues had to be considered in the upgrade to make another luxury status product that would have a long life span. The renovation was originally considered only as soft but involved many tech upgrades and restyled areas adding new enclosures, renovating waterworks and adding a new spa and fitness suite. Final interiors works undertaken by second ID company Upperworth Studios. The external areas were  reconfigured with a new approach to use the functions lobby as the main entrance to the building.  Many operational issues were implemented to split the Waldorf Hotel Cairo Heliopolis from the adjacent Hilton to allow a measure of operational independence.
